Preparing for your headshot

  • Get some rest. You want to be as fresh and relaxed as possible on your shoot day
  • You CAN wear bright colors…especially shirts, ties, blouses.
  • Do not wear WHITE as the outer garment unless you are a Doctor. Very few people look great in bright white.
  • SIMPLE garments and SOLID colors look best. Tweeds and patterns are distracting.
  • Light, dark, mid-grey…they all look GREAT.
  • Medium to darker colors project a more business-like image.
  • Avoid BOLD PATTERNS unless that is part of your “personal brand”. In that case…GO FOR IT!!!
  • Avoid very wide or particularly deep V-neck garments as well as bulky cowl neck sweaters that completely hide the neck.
  • Long sleeves are preferable as bare arms call attention to themselves and can overpower the face.
  • Women should keep make-up light and natural.
  • We will COACH YOU to get the right EXPRESSIONS and make you feel comfortable. Even if you dislike being photographed we’ll make this E-A-S-Y!!! It’s easier than you think and less painful than a root canal
  • Please bring your own hair-brush or comb to the shoot
  • Our basic retouching (free) includes removing stray hair, reducing smile/age lines, brightening teeth and eyes.
  • If possible, please arrive at the shoot wearing your business attire. Changing cuts into your shoot time.
  • Arrive with your hair styled and makeup already applied unless you are using OUR hair+makeup services. If so, please arrive with ONLY MOISTURIZER applied to your face.
  • You clothes should FIT well. No amount of retouching can replace a suit that fits. Remember…if you can’t button your suit coat…you should wear a larger coat.
